Musical Script Semi-Finalist Nashville Film Festival

A boyband idol and a rising indie-pop star try to protect the fragility of first love across the globe, as their lifestyles and careers in the music industry threaten their relationship.

This fractured narrative incorporates music not only thematically but structurally, relying on song, image, mood, and tone, point and counterpoint to guide you through the chaotic lives and relationship of two global stars.

Portraits of Ophelia

feature

Quarterfinalist in the Nicholl Fellowship

When her single mother is hospitalized after a car crash, fourteen year old Ophelia takes on directing her high school production of Hamlet to escape the stark reality of moving in with the deadbeat dad she’d never met.

The coming of age film interweaves three timelines- Ophelia’s rocky new relationship with the father she’s never met, her parent’s teenaged love, and the fantastical version of Hamlet that Ophelia imagines- to tell the story of a family coming together.

What differentiates film from any other artistic medium is the ability to manipulate time and space.

To me, it is essential to explore these two elements when writing for the screen- the dis/connections between them, how we move through them, and how we carry them within us. We never truly exist only in the present, in the here and now. We carry our pasts, our futures, and our desires with us always.

And what better way to explore the connections between those things than through moving images?

The Shadow

pilot

A dangerous vigilante and an enigmatic young girl team up to figure out what happened to five year old Ruby Matthews, who vanished in the corrupt city of Brawsen half a decade ago.

On the surface, this superhero-adjacent crime mystery is rooted in a simple mystery with a complicated answer-  “What happened to Ruby Matthews?” But deeper down, it examines- and subverts- the complex power dynamics at play in a city with many faces.

End Scene

pilot

Against the backdrop of Los Angeles, aging actor Oscar Ramirez questions his role in the dreammaking machine of Hollywood while his aspiring screenwriter girlfriend and teenaged activist niece fight to shape the future of their city and industry.

This intimate family drama tackles the hidden costs of big dreams within the ruthless city that feeds off them.
